Ethereum was founded by a group of developers, with the most prominent figure being Vitalik Buterin . Born in Russia and raised in Canada , Buterin is a programmer and writer who became interested in cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology in the early 2010s. He co-founded Bitcoin Magazine in 2011, where he contributed articles and shared his thoughts on the potential of blockchain technology beyond just being a digital currency . Buterin conceived the idea of Ethereum in 2013 when he recognized that the Bitcoin blockchain had limitations for building more complex applications.
